You all know I’m not really a fan of cats…but this little lady needs help…

As far back as I can remember it was always my dad, Gunther, and I together. Gunther was our German Rottweiler who was the epitome of the perfect dog. My dad and I spent most of out time playing with Gunther and taking him everywhere and when he passed away things just weren’t the same. I was never a dog person but I missed Gunther very much, he was my best friend.
As I got older I came to terms with losing my doggie friend and we hadn’t gotten another rottweiler since, or another dog for that matter. My dad, who is a chief in the navy, was called to do relief work for hurricane Katrina. We hadn’t heard from my dad for a long time and the only contact we had with him for several weeks was seeing him on CNN rescuing people. Upon that my mother and I were relieved to see he was okay and very proud of his efforts and decided we needed to do something for him.
When we finally heard from my dad he was very sad that day, he told us of how he saw a rottweiler abandoned on a roof that looked just like Gunther. He made his crew lower down near the dog and my dad dropped down from the helo to try and make a rescue effort but the dog was just too terrified of the helicopter. My mother and I tried to comfort my dad and told him all he could do was try and it’s not his fault he couldn’t help the dog.
After hanging up the phone with my dad my mother and I decided it was time for another rottweiler puppy. We checked out several local breeders and finally decided on one close to home. I took my best friend at the time along with my mother and I and we headed out to the breeder just a few days before my father was due home. All the little puppies were so cute but just one caught my eye. She was the roundest, tubbiest and cutest puppy I had ever seen. I knew she was the perfect rottweiler for my dad when she ran up and stole my friends shoe and pranced around the yard in triumph.
When my dad saw the little puppy he just felt so happy. It was just the cheering up my father needed after such an endeavor and almost losing his life several times. We named the little puppy Katrina so that we could always remember the great things my dad has done and show him he may not be able to give every animal a home but he can give her a home. My dad and Katrina are very close now, like he was with Gunther, although Gunther holds a very special place in our hearts. And I too, now have another amazing rottweiler I have made a lot of memories with.
